EyeGenetix provides a targeted approach to Ophthalmic Care earlier by bridging the gap between Primary Care and Ophthalmic Intervention.
What We Do: Eye Genetic Testing
Genetic Panels for Multiple Eye-Related Conditions
Our comprehensive Glaucoma Panel screens for multiple sequence variants in MYOC, OPTN, TBK1 and 6 other signifi cant Genes, including the mutation, GLN368STOP, known to be a “bad actor” in glaucoma.
Additional tests are available for comprehensive assessment of AMD and Diabetic Retinopathy.
Testing Procedures
Next generation sequencing is performed by the EyeGenetix laboratory, Innogens, on the campus of the University of SC, Columbia SC. The individual’s genomic DNA is prepared from buccal swab, genotyping assay using predesigned primers/probes. Sequence variants are identified, and interpreted based on EyeGenetix research.
Benefits of Testing
- Allowing for the earlier referral of visually impaired or ‘at-risk’ persons to be channeled to appropriate eye professionals.
- Managing eye disease earlier and more effectively (and possibly even arresting Glaucoma and Retina related disorders).
- Supporting a healthcare environment that is effective in both diagnosis, management, treatment & surgical intervention.
