Preventing Visual Loss From Chronic Eye Disease in Primary Care - Vision loss is common in the United States and its prevalence increases with age. Visual disability significantly impacts quality of life and increases the risk of injury. Although at least 40% of blindness in the United States is either preventable or treatable with timely diagnosis and intervention, many people with vision loss are undiagnosed and untreated.
Glaucoma screening in primary care: the role of non contact tonometry - Guidelines for glaucoma screening by the primary care physician have not been firmly established. Despite its limitations as a screening test, intraocular pressure measurement by tonometry remains the mainstay of glaucoma monitoring but is not widely used in the primary care setting. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of noncontact tonometry using the Pulsair instrument with that of conventional tonometry using the Goldmann applanation tonometer as a screening tool for glaucoma.
Diabetes Eye Screening (Retinal Camera) - If you have diabetes, you need an eye exam at least once a year to screen for retinopathy (eye damage due to diabetes).
National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) - The goal of NEHEP is to ensure that vision is a health priority by translating eye and vision research into public and professional education programs. NEHEP supports collaboration among eye health professionals, healthcare providers, patients, and the public.
